Buying a Toyota MP-62 supercharger for a 3.4 V-6 Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner, or T100 can be an intriguing modification for those seeking increased power and performance. Let's examine the potential advantages and disadvantages of this upgrade:

Advantages:

1. Power and Performance: The most obvious benefit is the substantial increase in power and torque. Supercharging compresses air and forces it into the engine, resulting in more combustion and ultimately more horsepower. This can lead to improved acceleration and overall driving experience.

2. Improved Drivability: Superchargers provide almost instant torque, making for smoother and more consistent power delivery throughout the rev range. This is particularly beneficial when towing, carrying heavy loads, or navigating hilly terrain.

3. Fuel Efficiency: Although it may seem counterintuitive, superchargers can actually improve fuel efficiency in some cases. By increasing engine efficiency and reducing the need for excessive throttle input, a supercharger can help save fuel.

4. Durability: Toyota MP-62 superchargers are known for their robustness and reliability. They are designed to handle the rigors of daily driving and can withstand the demands of off-road and towing applications.

5. Resale Value: A well-executed supercharger upgrade can add value to your vehicle, making it more desirable to potential buyers.

Disadvantages:

1. Cost: Supercharger kits can be expensive, with the Toyota MP-62 kit retailing for several thousand dollars. This cost includes the supercharger itself, installation, and any necessary modifications or upgrades.

2. Complexity: Installing a supercharger is a complex process that requires specialized knowledge and tools. It's important to ensure that the installation is done correctly to avoid any potential issues.

3. Maintenance: Superchargers require more maintenance than a naturally aspirated engine. Regular oil changes, belt replacements, and other maintenance tasks are necessary to keep the supercharger running efficiently.

4. Noise: Superchargers can be quite loud, especially under heavy acceleration. This added noise may not be desirable for some drivers, particularly those who value a quieter cabin.

5. Fuel Consumption: Despite the potential for improved fuel efficiency, superchargers do consume more fuel than a naturally aspirated engine. This increased fuel consumption can lead to higher operating costs.

Conclusion:

The decision to purchase and install a Toyota MP-62 supercharger on a 3.4 V-6 Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner, or T100 ultimately comes down to personal preference and priorities. If you're seeking increased power, improved drivability, and don't mind the added cost and complexity, a supercharger may be the right choice for you. However, if you value a quieter, more fuel-efficient driving experience, or are concerned about the cost and maintenance requirements, you may want to consider other modifications or simply enjoy your vehicle as it is.

Recommendation:

If you do decide to pursue a supercharger upgrade, be sure to work with a reputable and experienced installer to ensure a proper installation. Additionally, consider the potential benefits and drawbacks carefully and weigh them against your personal driving habits and preferences. A well-planned and executed supercharger upgrade can lead to a more enjoyable and capable vehicle.

Details:

I couldn't get the system to list those. It definitely adds some power, and the whine when you get on it, is cool, but I never really planned keeping it. The bypass actuator diaphragm was broken. Its got a 2.2 pulley, which gives it more boost than the stock 2.4.

It works well, and puts out about 6 lb of boost at 3,000 rpm. I replaced the actuator with a new one, and rebuilt supercharger. This is also compatible with all 1st gen Tacoma's '95 to '04 a 3.4 L V6. It was fun playing with it.

This came on a '99 Tacoma that I bought recently.
